1. SHORT NEWS

We would like to congratulate Dr. Elias Koulouridis (Univ. of Patras), Dr. Danai Polychroni (IFSI-Rome, Italy), and Dr. Eleni Vardoulaki (CUAP, Portugal) who were recently awarded a 3-year postdoctoral fellowship within the action “Support of post-doctoral researchers” of GSRT.

We would like to congratulate Dr. Ioanna Arka who was recently awarded her PhD from the University of Heidelberg (Germany) under the supervision of Prof. John Dirk. The title of her dissertation was: "Non-linear waves in the Laboratory and in Astrophysics: Pair production in counter-propagating laser beams and superluminal waves in pulsar winds". Dr. Arka has received a post-doctoral reserach fellowship and will move in Grenoble, France.

We would like to congratulate Dr. Nikolaos Fanidakis who was recently awarded his PhD from the University of Durham (UK) under the supervision of Prof. Carlos Frenk. The title of his dissertation was: "A new twist on black holes: the role of black hole spin in galaxy formation". Dr. Fanidakis has received a post-doctoral research fellowship and will move to the Max Planck Institute for Astronomy in Heidelberg, Germany.

 
2. THE 10th HELLENIC ASTRONOMICAL CONFERENCE

3. IKY FELLOWSHIPS

The Greek National Institute of Fellowships (IKY) has announced its graduate (MSc, PhD) fellowship program for 2011-2012. The application deadline is September 16, 2011. For more information on the requirements and application forms (in Greek) visit:

4. WINTER SCHOOL OF ASTROPHYSICS IN KASTORIA

The second Winter School of Astrophysics will take place in the city of Kastoria on December 12-16, 2011. The school lasts a week, it is addressed to undergraduate physics students who wish to specialize in Astrophysics and it provides the participants with valuable experience and more in depth perspective in key areas of modern astrophysics. Its format involves morning lectures and afternoon exercise / research-project sessions. This years speakers are Prof. T. Apostolatos (Univ. of Athens), Dr. A. Bonanos (IAA/NOA), Dr. I. Contopoulos (RCAAM/Academy of Athens), and Dr. I. Georgatonopoulos (IAA/NOA). The application deadline is end of October, 2011. For more information visit:
