1. Short News

Upon several requests, made by members of our society who participated in the 12th Conference of Hel.A.S., a final extension of the deadline for sending extended abstracts and material related to presentations had been granted. All material related to the Conference has now been collected and should become publicly available through the conference's web-page by the end of next week.

2. The 2nd Hel.A.S. Summer School

The Governing Council of Hel.A.S. is pleased to announce that the second "Hel.A.S. Summer School" will take place in Athens, from 11 to 15 of July, 2016. The title of the School is "Nuclear activity in galaxies". Its aim is to train graduate students, Ph.D. students and young postdoctoral researchers in the following topics: X-ray emission from AGN, X-ray surveys - Black hole evolution across cosmic times, Infrared Emission from Dust and Gas in Galaxies, and Jets from AGN. More information and a dedicated web page for preregistration will be announced in one of our next newsletters.

3. Astronomy & Astrophysics available only on-line

Following similar decisions from other major astrophysics journals, Astronomy and Astrophysics (A&A) announced that the journal will move to online-only publication from the beginning of 2016. In recent years, it has become clear that demand is moving rapidly towards the electronic edition of the journal with the print version becoming less important. More information on this decision is available at:

4. PhD position at Lund Observatory

An open PhD position at Lund Observatory in high-resolution, infrared stellar spectroscopy has been announced. The application deadline is November 2, 2015. Instructions on how to apply and more details can be found at:
