  1. SHORT NEWS
  -------------

    This is the last e-newsletter before the 7th conference of the
  Hel.A.S. to be held at Lixourion, Kefallinia, Sept 8th - 10th.
  The detailed programm of all sessions of the conference can be

   We hope that we will be seing you in Lixourion and we wish everybody
  a safe journey to Kefallonia and a fruitful participation to the
  conference.


  2. MEMBERS IN NEW POSITIONS
  ---------------------------

    Dr. Markos Georganopoulos of the Joint Center for Astrophysics of
  NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center and the University of Maryland,
  Baltimore County has been recently promoted to the rank of Research
  Assistant Professor.

    Dr. Yiannis Tsamis moved from Paris Observatory (F), to a research
  associate position at the Star Formation/Molecular Astrophysics
  group of the Dept. of Physics and Astronomy, in the University
  College London (UK).


  3. ACCESS TO INTERNATIONAL RESEARCH FACILITIES
  ----------------------------------------------

   Dr. K. Tziotziou and Dr. G. Tsiropoula (Institute for Space Applications
  and Remote Sensing, National Observatory of Athens) were awarded 12 days
  of observing time and are leading a multi-site, multi-spacecraft campaign
  devoted to observations of the solar chromospheric fine  structure.
  The ground-based telescopes involved are THEMIS in  Tenerife, DOT in La
  Palma, SOLIS in Tucson (Arizona) and the Ondrejov  Solar Spectrograph in
  Odrejov (Prague), while the spacecrafts are SOHO  and TRACE.
  Various instruments providing images, spectrograms and  magnetograms
  will be used during this campaign.

    Dr. M. Georganopoulos has been awarded seven orbits in the Cycle
  14 GO program of the Hubble Space Telescope using the ACS and NICMOS
  cameras for a project entitled "Probing the jet matter content of the
  quasar 0637-752".
