1. SHORT NEWS

We would like to congratulate Dr. S. Basilakos who was recently awarded a "Honorable Mention" in the 2013 Essay Competition of "Gravity Research Foundation".

 
2. The 11th CONFERENCE OF HEL.A.S.

We would like to remind all members of the Society that the deadline of the abstract submission for the 11th Conference of Hel.A.S. is approaching. Please visit the web page of the conference and submit your abstract before July 8, 2013. The conference's web page has also updated information regarding the social events. The list of the invited speakers in all Sessions will be announced by the middle of July.

 
3. NEW MEMBERS OF HEL.A.S. (REMINDER)

During the 31st General Assembly of the Society, which will take place during the 11th Hellenic Astronomical Conference, new members of the Society will be elected. Junior members who have received their PhD the past year will also be moved to the Ordinary status. This is a once in a year event as new members, and change of membership status, can only happen during a General Assembly. We would like to request from all members of the Society to inform any individual who they believe would be interested to join Hel.A.S., and from our Junior members who need to change their membership status, to submit his/her application to the Secretary of the Society before July 31, 2013. 4. EWASS 2014: CALL FOR PROPOSALS TO ORGANIZE SYMPOSIA AND SPECIAL SESSIONS

The European Week of Astronomy and Space Science (EWASS 2014) will take place in Geneva, Switzerland, from 30 June to 4 July 2014. The meeting will be organised by the European Astronomical Society (EAS) at the International Conference Centre of Geneva (CICG), Switzerland. The call for proposals to organise Symposia and Special Sessions at EWASS 2014 is open until Friday, 19 July 2013. 5. IMPRS FOR ASTRONOMY AND ASTROPHYSICS AT MPIfR

The International Max Planck Research School (IMPRS) for Astronomy and Astrophysics (a collaboration of MPIfR, University of Bonn and University of Cologne in Germany) is offering a number of funded PhD positions. The PhD course is limited to three years. The IMPRS is open to students from all countries. Applicants must have (or are about to obtain) a degree equivalent to the German Diploma (e.g., a Master of Science degree including a Master Thesis) in Physics or other related field of Natural Sciences. The application deadline is November 15, 2013. More information is available at:
