Session 6: Cosmology and Relativity

Title: Instabilities of Rotating Relativistic Stars
Author(s): K. D. Kokkotas (Oral)

ABSTRACT
We are going to present an overview of the astrophysical implications of the r-mode instability together with some related caveats. Especially, we will focus on the effects of the r-mode instability on the evolution due to accretion of the Low Mass X-ray (LMXB) binaries and we will discuss the problems raised from the study of the rotational instabilities in general relativity.
