We would like to congratulate Dr. Vallia Antoniou, who has recently moved to Texas Tech University as Full-time Instructor & Preston Gott Observatory Director. The Society extends its best wishes to Dr. Antoniou for further successes in her professional pursuits.

The Society would like to congratulate Zoi Spetsieri who recently completed her PhD at the Department of Physics of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, in collaboration with the National Observatory of Athens, under the supervision of Dr. Bonanos. Her thesis is entitled “Transient variability and variability of massive stars with the Hubble Space Telescope”. The Society extends its best wishes to Dr. Spetsieri for further successes in her professional pursuits.

We would also like to congratulate Despina Hatzidimitriou for her recent promotion to Full Professor at the Department of Physics of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. The Society extends its best wishes to Prof. Hatzidimitriou for further success in her professional pursuits.

We would like to congratulate Dr. Konstantinos Kolokythas who has recently moved at the Centre for Space Research of North-West University in Potchefstroom, South Africa with a Postdoctoral fellowship. The Society extends its best wishes to Dr. Kolokythas for for further successes and productivity in his career.

The Society would like to congratulate Raphael Skalidis, who recently received the best PhD student prize by the “Friends of the Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas”. Raphael Skalidis is working under the supervision of Prof. K. Tassis. The Society extends its best wishes to Raphael Skalidis for further success in his professional pursuits.

We announce the opening of two research C positions at the Research Center for Astronomy and Applied Mathematics (RCAAM) of the Academy of Athens. One position is in the field of dynamical astronomy and the second in the field of Cosmology. The deadline for candidature submission will be in the first week of November (30 days after the final announcement in the press). For the announcement in Greek look here.

We are delighted to inform our members that the University of Crete recognized the lifelong contribution of Ioannis Papamastorakis, Emeritus Professor at the Department of Physics of the University of Crete, towards the creation and successful operation for nearly 35 years of Skinakas Observatory.
During a ceremony that took place on September 29, 2019 at the premisses of the Observatory at the Skinakas peak, the guest house of the Observatory was formally named  “Guest House Ioannis Papamastorakis”.  The event was attended by many friends and colleagues of Prof. Papamastorakis as well as local dignitaries and members or the parliament.
The GC of the Society extends its warmest congratulations to Prof. Papamastorakis for this wonderful honour. Moreover, it would like to applaud this decision of the Univ. of Crete and acknowledge his contributions towards the advancement of astrophysics in Greece.
