1. SHORT NEWS

In order to prepare for the International Year of Astronomy 2009, a conference entitled "Communicating Astronomy with the Public 2007 (CAP 2007)" will take place in Athens on 8-11 October 2007. The conference aims to bring together the producers of astronomical information (research scientists), public information officers (connected with large observatories and space missions), and mediators (science reporters and writers, staff members from museums, planetariums). For more information visit the conference web site at:

http://www.communicatingastronomy.org/cap2007/index.html

2. THE 8th HELLENIC ASTRONOMICAL CONFERENCE

Within the next few days several updates to the web site of the 8th Conference of Hel.A.S. will take place:

http://www.ee.duth.gr/hac/

The web pages with information on Transportation logistics and Conference Location and Fees will be enriched and two more links will be added in the main page. One will be the Conference Program and the second will be the Conference Registration Form.

We wish to remind all Hel.A.S. members who plan to attend the conference that they have to complete this Conference Registration Form to indicate the exact dates of their arrival and departure. The form should be mailed to the LOC at the e-mail aangelou@xan.duth.gr before August 30, 2007.

Hel.A.S. will try to provide some financial assistance to as many graduate students, who will attend the conference, as possible. Those interested should send by e-mail an application with the justification of their estimated expenses, as well as any other sources of funding they may have, to the President and Treasurer of Hel.A.S. (president@helas.gr, treasurer@helas.gr)

3. GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF HEL.A.S.

The next General Assembly (GA) of Hel.A.S. will take place on Friday September 14 2007 at 4:00pm in Thassos during the 8th Conference of Hel.A.S. All members of the Society are strongly encouraged to attend. If you have any topics that you would like to be included in the agenda of the meeting please send them by e-mail to the Secretary at secretary@helas.gr.
