1. SHORT NEWS
-------------
We would like to congratulate our colleague and Vice President of
Hel.A.S. Professor Nikos Kylafis for his election as chairman
of the Department of Physics of the University of Crete.
We would, also, like to congratulate Dr. Nikolaos Stergioulas,
who has just been elected as a Lecturer in the Department
of Physics at the University of Thessaloniki (Section of Astrophysics,
Astronomy and Mechanics). He was one of six candidates for the position
"Theory of Relativity" which was advertized in our December 1997 issue of
"Hipparchos" (the Society's Newsletter).
Finally we would like to congratulate the junior member of Hel.A.S.
Markos Georganopoulos, who got his PhD degree from Boston Univesrity last
fall. The Council of Hel.A.S. will propose to the next General Assembly
the change of its status from Junior to Ordinary Member.
2. JOB OPENING

The Astronomical Institute at the National Observatory of Athens
announces a "promotion-opened" position of Research Assistant Professor
("3i bathmida") in the area of "Processing of Astronomical Images from
Ground and Space Observations".
