1. SHORT NEWS

Errata: The editor of Issue 6, Vol. 1 of the Hellenic Astronomical
Society's Newsletter "Hipparchos", would like to correct:
a) the "ASTRONOMY 2000+ External Advisor Committee" Table, which
appeared in page 1, by including the name of Chryssa Kouveliotou (NASA,
Marshall Space Flight Center, USA). Dr. Kouveliotou's name was
inadvertently ommitted, due to a typing error.
b) the name of the Treasurer of the Society, which appeared as "Niarhos"
twice in the article on page 3, instead of "Niarchos" as it is known to
all of us.
The deadline for submissions of abstracts for the 4th Astronomical
Conference of Hel.A.S. in Samos is the 31st of May 1999. Please
consider sending your contributions on time.
2. JOB OPENINGS

3. MEMBERSHIP FEES
------------------
In view of the forthcoming 4th Hellenic Astronomical Conference, at
Samos, we would like to remind you that the membership fees set by the
General Assembly of the Society, four years ago, are:
Ordinary Members : GRD 10000.-
Associate Members: GRD 10000.-
Junior Members : GRD 5000.-
Members who have fulfilled their finanancial obligations are entitled a
50% reduction in the registration fees of the Conference.

information about the status of your payment for 1999 and ways of
fulfilling any financial obligations you may have.
4. EXHIBITION, LECTURES AND VIDEOS ON GENESIS
-----------------------------------------------------
Beginning Monday, April 26, and for a duration of 4 weeks the French
Institute of Thessaloniki and the Physics Department of the University of
Thessaloniki are organizing an Exhibition of paintings on the general
subject of "Creation", at the premises of the French Institute, Stratou
Av. 2. The Exhibition is complemented by a series of astronomical
videos.
The Exhibition is accompanied by four lectures that will cover the
subject from four different aspects. The lectures are delivered at 20.30
on four consecutive Mondays, starting Monday April 26, as follows:
26/4/99: Dr. N. Prantzos (Institute of Astrophysics, Paris)
3/5/99: Prof. G. Vokos (Department of Philosophy, Univ. of Thessaloniki)
10/5/9a: Prof J. Iliopoulos (Ecole Normale Superieure, Paris)
17/5/99: Father G. Metallinos (Department of Theology, Univ. of Athens)

6. 12TH PRED-DOCTORAL SCHOOL OF EADN
------------------------------------
The 12th Pre-doctoral School of the European Astrophysics Doctoral
Network (EADN) is devoted to the study of binary stars and will be held
in La Laguna, Tenerife (Spain), in the interval September 6-17 1999.
The intended audience of EADN Schools consists of astrophysics students
in the first or second year of their Ph.D. work. For further information:
