3. NOA's PUBLIC OUTREACH ACTIVITIES

The National Observatory of Athens (NOA) organised a public outreach event on June 15th at its Thission headquarters, on the occasion of last month's full moon eclipse. The event was very successful and hundreds of people attended talks on related topics, such as, on how the classical Greek astronomers used lunar eclipses to determine the dimensions and distance of the moon and the Sun (by Prof. K. Tsinganos), as well as on the decoding and use of the Antikythera Mechanism (by Prof. J. Seiradakis). The public had also the chance to admire the full moon eclipse and observe Saturn with its satellites by the NOA Doridis telescope and other telescopes set up on the Pnyka hill across Acropolis by various members of our Society.
