1. Short News

We have been informed that Dr. Maria Petropoulou, a member of our Society, will be awarded the "2016 Merac Prize" for best PhD by the European Astronomical Society at this year's EWASS. As most of you will recall, Maria had already received the "2015 Best PhD Award" of Hel.A.S during our 12th Conference in Thessaloniki.

The Council of Hel.A.S. is happy to congratulate Dr. Petroploulou for her achievement and expresses its wishes for a fruitful future career.

 
2. Candidates for the upcoming elections of Hel.A.S.

We remind our members that the next elections for the GC and Auditors of Hel.A.S. will take place on June the 17th, 2016. The 34th General Assembly (GA) of the Society will also take place at the University of Athens, on the same day.

The GC has reviewed all nominations sent by our Ordinary Members, in accordance to the rules described in our Constitution. Hence, we are happy to announce that the candidates for the next Governing Council and Auditing Committee of our Society are:

Candidate for President of Hel.A.S:

Short CVs of all candidates wiil be posted on our web-site (under  "News & Events") in the following week. Ballots will be distributed to all Hel.A.S. members by post by April 10th.

 
3. The 2nd Hel.A.S. Astrophysics Summer School - Program

We remind our members that registration for the 2nd Hel.A.S. Astrophysics Summer School is now open. The School will take place in Athens, on July 11-15, 2016. The scientific program has been announced and can be found here.

 
4. The 11th Heidelberg Summer School

The "International Max Planck Research School for Astronomy & Cosmic Physics at the University of Heidelberg" (IMPRS-HD) announces the "11th Heidelberg Summer School on Astrostatistics & Data Mining", to be held on September 12-16, 2016. IMPRS Heidelberg invites graduate students and postdocs to apply. The deadline for application is July 10, 2015. The school will look at the principles of inference and methods of astronomical data analysis and data mining and will cover a range of numerical and statistical techniques and their application to different types of astronomical data.
