1. Short News |
The Council of Hel.A.S. would like to wish to all our members a Happy Easter!
|
We would like to congratulate Dr. Manos Chatzopoulos, Enrico Fermi Fellow at the Dept. of Astronomy & Astrophysics of the Univ. of Chicago, who has recently accepted an Assistant Professor position at the Dept. of Physics & Astronomy of Luisiana State Univ. Dr. Chatzopoulos obtained his BSc degree in Physics from the Univ. of Crete in 2007 and his PhD from the Univ. of Texas at Austin in 2013. The Council wishes to Manos a successful career in his new post.

2. Upcoming elections of Hel.A.S.
|
All members of Hel.A.S. must have received by now an envelope containing the ballots and all other relevant material for the upcoming elections. The envelope would not have reached you if your address had changed in the meantime and you forgot to notify us of this change! If this is the case, and you still wish to cast your vote by post, please contact the Secretary (Dr. K. Tsiganis) by e-mail, so we can try sending you the elections material anew and on time.
We remind our members that the next elections for the GC and Auditors of Hel.A.S. will take place on June the 17th, 2016. The 34th General Assembly (GA) of the Society will also take place at the University of Athens, on the same day.
Several of you have pointed out to us that, contrary to what was mentioned in the "Voting Guide", an "extra envelope" (addressed to the E.E. - item 8 in the corresponding list) was not included in the material sent to you. We apologize for the inconvenience, but please note that this does not raise any issue for the voting procedure, as sending this extra envelope is not really required by the Constitution (see http://www.helas.gr/const.php, Articles 31-33). Hence, if you wish to vote by post, please use any normal envelope, addressed to the E.E. and send it by post to the Secretary (K. Tsiganis), at the address written at the bottom of this Newsletter.
This "larger" envelope will be opened by the Electoral Committee and should contain: (a) the small, white, stamped envelope that has been sent to you, in which the ballots should be put. You should seal the white envelope. (b) A singed copy of your photo ID or passport. (c) A bank receipt, proving that you have payed your dues to Hel.A.S., for the amount indicated on your "voting guide" (not necessary if you had already payed your fees prior to us sending you the material for the elections).
