1. Short News

We would like to congratulate Dr. Ioannis Gkolias who was recently elected as Assistant Professor at the Department of Physics of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. The Society extends its best wishes for further success in his professional pursuits.

We would like to congratulate Dr. Athanasios Kouloumvakos who was recently moved to a postdoctoral researcher position at the Applied Physics Laboratory of The Johns Hopkins University (USA). The Society extends its best wishes for further success in his professional pursuits.

 
2. The 41st General Assembly

The 41st General Assembly (GA) took place in hybrid mode on June 24, 2022 in the Department of Physics of the University of Athens. The GA was preceded by a colloquium of Prof. Hatzidimitriou entitled "The Gaia view of the Milky Way Galaxy and its satellites". During the GA 10 new junior members and 4 new ordinary members of the Society were elected, bringing the total membership to an all time high of 303 members. 3.The 2022-24 Elections of Hel.A.S.

During the elections that took place electronically on June 24, 2022, the President of the Society, as well as a new Council and Auditors for the 2022-2024 term were elected. Of the 246 ordinary and junior members of the Society (excluding those members who have been retired), 199 members were eligible to vote and a total of 126 ballots were cast. The results of the elections were:

Candidate for President of HelAS:

  • Charmandaris Vassilis [115 votes]

Candidates for the Governing Council (6 elected):

  • Petropoulou Maria [90 votes]
  • Tassis Konstantinos [68 votes]
  • Gourgouliatos Konstantinos-Nektarios [48 votes]
  • Balasis Georgios [32 votes]
  • Koulouridis Elias [21 votes]
  • Papaioannou Athanasios [20 votes]

Candidates for Auditors (3 elected):

  • Harsoula Maria [70 votes]
  • Antoniadis Ioannis [62 votes]
  • Giannakis Omiros [38 votes]

All members are elected in their respective positions and the minutes prepared by the Elections Committee are appended at the minutes of the 41st General Assembly available here.

The Council of the Society met on June 28, 2022 and it decided that Dr. G. Balasis becomes the Vice-president of the Society, Prof. M. Petropoulou becomes the Secretary of the Society and Dr. A. Papaioannou becomes the Treasurer. As usual, G. Balasis will also be the Editor of Hipparchos and M. Petropoulou will serve as the Editor of the Hel.A.S. e-newsletter.

 
4. Two post-doctoral positions at IAASARS-NOA

Applications are invited for two post-doctoral positions at the Institute of Astronomy Astrophysics Space Applications and Remote Sensing (IAASARS) of the National Observatory of Athens (NOA). Successful applicants will work with Dr. Antonis Georgakakis within the X-ray group of the IAASARS on the broad areas of AGN demographics and AGN variability. 5. Summer School of Hel.A.S.

After a two year delay due to the pandemic, the 4th summer school of the Society, entitled "The Milky Way Galaxy - Formation and Evolution", will take place in Athens during 25-27 July 2022. More information for the summer school, which is also sponsored by the Univ. of Athens, is available here. Please note that the registration deadline for the summer school is June 15, 2022.
