1. Short News

We would like to congratulate the members of our Society Dr.  Spyros Basilakos, Dr.  Emmanuel N. Saridakis, and PhD candidate Charalampos Tzerefos for receiving an Honorable Mention Award in the 2024 Competition "Awards for Essays in Gravitation" organized by the Gravity Research Foundation. Their essay, which was also co-authored by Prof. Dimitri V. Nanopoulos and Dr. Theodoros Papanikolaou, was  entitled “Observable Signatures of No-Scale Supergravity in NANOGrav”.

 
2. Elections of Hel.A.S.

The Governing Council of the Hel.A.S. informs all members that the next elections for the Council of the Society for 2024-2026 term will take place on Friday June 28 2024, along with the 43th General Assembly (GA). We would like to remind all members that in order to participate in the upcoming elections all Ordinary and Junior members must have paid their 2023 annual membership fee by June 10, 2024. After this date, the e-mails of the eligible voters will be submitted to the electronic voting system for processing. As was the case in 2022, the elections will take place electronically from 8:00 until 17:00 and they will be coordinated by the three member committee: Dr. A. Anastasiadis (Chair), Prof. I. Papadakis and Prof. V. Pavlidou.

 
3. The 43rd General Assembly of Hel.A.S.

The agenda of the 43rd General Assembly of the Society, which will take place on Friday June 28, 2024, is available here. At noon Prof. Nektarios Vlahakis will deliver an invited lecture to all participants entitled "Open questions in Astrophysical Jets".

 
4. Summer School of Hel.A.S.

The 5th summer school of the Society, entitled "Magnetohydrodynamics in Astrophysics", will take place in Ioannina during 16-20 September 2024. More information about the summer school, which is also sponsored by the Univ. of Ioannina, will become available here.

 
5. 2024 NEON Observing School

The 2024 NEON Observing school will take place in Greece at the facilities of the National Observatory of Athens 13 - 25 October 2024. During the school we will use in person the 2.3 meter Aristarchos telescope and 1.2 metre Kryoneri telescope. In addition we will obtain data also from the 2 meter Liverpool Telescope. Liverpool Telescope is a robotic telescope located on La Palma in Spain.  More information about the school is available here.

 
6. Travel Grants
 

We would like to inform the Junior members of our Society that we are now accepting applications for financial support for meetings occurring during the calendar year's second half (July - December 2024). Priority will be given to Junior members who have no access to other sources of funding for their participation in conferences or workshops. The deadline for submitting the application is June 15, 2024. The application form is available here.

 
7. Job Opportunities in Greece

OHB Hellas is actively seeking a detail-oriented Requirement Management Specialist to contribute to the PLATO (Planetary Transits and Oscillations of stars) and LISA (Laser Interferometer Space Antenna) space science missions. This pivotal role involves overseeing requirement management and utilizing the DOORS Database to ensure the success of these ambitious space projects. More information is available here.
