1. FORTHCOMING ELECTIONS OF Hel.A.S
-----------------------------------
Please note the following deadlines for the forthcoming elections
of our Society.
- February 28, 2002: Last day for nominations of candidates by
the Ordinary members of the Society. The Nomination Forms have
been mailed a month ago to all Ordinary members.
- April 10, 2002: The Council distributes the ballots to all
Ordinary and Junior members
We may use this opportunity to review the Constitution of Hel.A.S.,
which is available as a PDF file, on our web server.
Also note that according to article 32 of our Constitution, a
member must have payed his/her annual membership fee, including
those for previous years, in order to be eligible to vote. As of
March 1st 2002, all payments must be in Euro and it is possible
to be charged in a VISA credit card. The relevant invoice can be
retrieved from the web server of the society.

payments you may contact Prof. Panagiotis Niarchos, the treasurer

2. MEMBERS IN NEW POSITIONS
---------------------------
We would like to congratulate Dr. Athanasios Boudouridis who
recently received his Ph.D. from the Astronomy Department of Boston
University, in Boston MA (USA). Dr. Boudouridis moved to a postdoc
position at the Departmet of Atmospheric Sciences of the University
of California, Los Angeles, in Los Angeles CA, (USA).
3. THE SECOND NEON OBSERVING SCHOOL
-----------------------------------
The Network of European Observatories in the North (NEON) is pleased
to announce its third observing school, sponsored by the European
Community, which will take place at Asiago Observatory (Italy) from
September 9 to 22, 2002. The purpose of the school is to provide opportunity
to gain practical observationnal experience at the telescope, in
observatories with state of the art instrumentation.
The school is open to students working towards a PhD thesis in
Astronomy, or young post-docs without previous observationnal
experience. The working langage is english. The age limit for full
financial assistance is 35 years at the time of the School.
Applicants are expected to fill in an application form (available
on the Web site) and to provide a letter of recommendation from a senior
scientist familiar with the work of the applicant. The application
deadline is April 20th, 2002.
