Applications and Remote Sensing of the National Observatory of Athens.

We would like to congratulate Prof. Leandros Perivolaropoulos who
was recently elected and moved to an associate professor position at
the Department of Physics at the Univ. of Ioannina.

We would also like to congratulate Dr. Iosif Papadakis currently at
the Foundation for Research and Technology at Herakleion, who was
recently elected as an assistant professor at the Department of
Physics of the University of Crete.

 3. NEW POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHERS AT THE NATIONAL OBSERVATORY OF ATHENS
 ---------------------------------------------------------------------

Using the "Aristeia" grant that had been awarded to the Institute
of Astronomy and Astrophysics of the National Observatory of Athens,
the following young colleagues (three of which are also members of
Hel.A.S.) have been selected for an over 2 year postdoctoral
 appointment each.

o Dr. Spyros Basilakos (PhD Unif. Of Athens, +
                              Post-doc at Imperial College-UK)
Research: Observational Cosmology: Multiwavelength data analysis,
modeling as well as purely analytical work.

o Dr. Antonios Georgakakis (PhD Imperial College-UK, +
                              Post-doc at Birmingham University-UK)
Research: Extragalactic Astrophysics - Star formation in other
galaxies: Multiwavelength observations and data analysis.

o Dr. Spyros Kitsionas (PhD Cardiff-UK)
Research: Stellar hydrodynamics: Numerical work using and
             developing the SPH+ code.

 o Dr. Vaggelis Kolokotronis (PhD Queen-Mary College-UK, +
                              Post-Doc at NOA)
Research: Observational Cosmology: Multiwavelength data analysis
             and modeling.

The grant "Aristeia" has as an objective to analyze data from ESA's
cornerstone X-ray mission, XMM. The scientific goals are the study of
clusters and groups of galaxies as well as obscured AGNs at high
 redshifts.

The council of Hel.A.S. would like to congratulate all four
young astronomers as well as the permanent staff of IAA/NOA who were
successful in securing this funding, thus increasing the research
