   We would like to remind all members that in a dedicated web page of
 our server we maintain a number of links to all academic departments

 2. THE 6th HELLENIC ASTRONOMICAL CONFERENCE
 -------------------------------------------

   A preliminary web page of the 6th Hellenic Astronomical Conference
 has become available at:

   More information on the various events that will take place during
 the meeting will be announced there regularly.


 3. INTERNATIONAL SUN-EARTH DAY
 ------------------------------

   The 18th of March 2003 has been set as the international Sun-Earth
 day, a celebration of our sun and its connection to our lives. See:

  A number of activities are planned in the Academy and the University 
 of Athens. For more information check the "Astronomy in Greece" web

 4. MEMBERS IN NEW POSITIONS
 ---------------------------

   We would like to congratulate Dr. Efthymia Meletlidou who was
 recently elected as an assistant professor at the Department of
 Physics of the University of Thessaloniki.

   We would like to congratulate Dr. Dimitris Psaltis who recently
 moved from the Institute of Advanced Studies in Princeton, to an
 assistant professor position at the Department of Physics of the
 University of Arizona in Tucson, AZ (USA).


 5. JOB OPENINGS
 ---------------

   A new tenure-track position at the level of "Assistant Professor" 
 in the field of "Observational Astrophysics" will soon open in the
 Department of Physics of the University of Crete.  Once the deadline
 is known, it will be posted in the web page of Hel.A.S.  For more
 information you may contact Nikos Kylafis (kylafis@physics.uoc.gr).

   The Institute of Electronic Structure and Laser of the Foundation
 for Research and Technology-Hellas (FORTH) has announced the opening
 of a tenure-track position of "Researcher C level" in "Observational
 Astrophysics with emphasis on Optical Photometry and Spectroscopy".
 The deadline for applications is 28 March 2003. Interested people may
 contact Mrs. Lia Papadopoulou at +30 2810-391300, or 391303.


 6. VISITING FELLOWSHIPS UNDER THE PROGRAM EARASTARGAL
 -----------------------------------------------------

   The European Association for Research in Astronomy (EARA) has been
 designated by the EU as a joint Marie Curie Training Site, offering
 fellowships for doctoral students working on several theoretical
 and observational areas in astronomy. The institutes involved are the
 Institute of Astronomy in Cambridge (United Kingdom), Leiden
 Observatory (The Netherlands), the Institut d'Astrophysique de Paris
 (France), the Max-Planck-Institut fuer Astrophysik in Garching
 (Germany), and the Instituto de Astrofisica de Canarias (Spain).

   A call for applications of PhD candidates who will spend 3 to 12
 months at one of the above EARA institutes during which they will
 continue their Ph.D research work under the supervision of local 
 staff members has been announced. For more information visit:

   The deadline for applications is April 15, 2003.


 7. OBITUARY
 -----------

   Few weeks ago, Alekos Tsioumis one of the pioneers who helped
 establishing the Stephanion Observatory passed away. Alekos published
 several astronomy papers before turning his interest in Geodetic 
 Astronomy and becoming a Topographer. He was greatly appreciated among 
 the olde generation of greek astronomers. Our thoughts are with his 
 family and loved ones.
