1. THE PROGRAMM OF THE 6th HELLENIC ASTRONOMICAL CONFERENCE
------------ ------------------------------------------------
Attached to this newsletter is the preliminary general programm of
the 6th Hellenic Astronomical Conference and the available detailed
programs with the corresponding talks and posters of most sessions.
2. SHORT NEWS
-------------
We would like to congratulate MariLiza Koukouli who recently
received her PhD enttiled "Remote sensising of water vapour in
Venus' middle atmosphere" from the Dept. of Atmospheric Oceanic and
Planetary Physics of Oxford University (UK). Dr, Koukouli will be
moving as a Marie Curie Fellow to the Instituto di Astrofisica di
Andalusia, in Granada (Spain).
3. NEW SOLAR OBSERVATIONS WITH VAULT
-------------------------------------
VAULT (Dr. C.M. Korendyke, PI) is an imaging instrument that
obtains narrowband images of the solar atmosphere in the Lyman a line
(1216A) with the unprecedented resolution of 0.3 arcseconds (or 220
km). VAULT has flown twice as a sounding rocket payload and is the
successor of the NRL's highly successful High Resolution Telescope
and Spectrograph (HRTS). We have taken care to make the VAULT web
site accessible and interesting to both the general public and the
solar physics community. The public can find an extensive collection
of information, visualizations and images that describe the concept
of sounding rockets, the VAULT instrument and its scientific
objectives and of course the spectacular images obtained during the
flights.For more information :
http://wwwsolar.nrl.navy.mil/rockets/vault/
The site also contains the full set of data (in FITS format)
from the first flight of the instrument. They are freely available to
all interested parties for further scientific analysis. We welcome
comments and suggestions for improving the site. Please visit often.
