1. FORTHCOMING ELECTIONS OF Hel.A.S.

The profiles of the candidates for the new Governing Council of
Hel.A.S. are available online at:
http://www.astro.auth.gr/elaset/events/CVs_2006.pdf
Ballots with the candidates will be sent to all members within a
month but one can always vote by attending the general assembly
which will take place during the elections on 20 June 2006. Please
ensure that your postal address listed in the online directory of
Hel.A.S. is correct. If you spot a mistake please contact the
Secretary of the Society. Note that you must have paid your
membership fee in order to be eligible to vote.
2. SOLAR ECLIPSE 2006
---------------------
The whole Greece enjoyed the solar eclipse on March 29, 2006. In
particular those who ventured to the small island of Castelorizo,
the only location where one could experience the totality from land
were awarded with a unique events. The blue skys of the Aegean
turned dark blue for 3min and the lights of the small town of
Megisti where turned on during midday. Two pictures of the eclipse
from Castelorizo made the NASA Astronomy Picture of the day:

The whole event was broadcasted live from HellasSat and a live
video feed of the totality was available from the web server of the
Astronomy, Astrophysics and Theoretical Mechanics Section of the
Univ. of Thessaloniki. Many members of Hel.A.S. were on the island
performing experiemnts or simply enjoying the view as well as groups
of greek amateur astronomers and scientists from all over the world.
