1. SHORT NEWS

We would like to congratulate Dr. Alceste Bonanos (IAA/NOA), who has been awarded one of the three "2011 L'Oreal-UNESCO Awards for Women in Science in Greece".

 
2. NEW MEMBERS FOR THE GREEK NATIONAL COMMITTEE FOR ASTRONOMY

We would like to congratulate Profs. N. Kylafis, P. Niarchos and J. Seiradakis, Dr. I. Daglis, and Dr. M. Georgoulis, who were recently appointed by the General Secretariat for Research and Technology as the new members of the Greek National Committee for Astronomy (GNCA). The new president of GNCA, for the period 2011-2013, is Prof. N. Kylafis.

 
3. PhD AND POST-DOC POSITIONS IN MARSEILLE

The "Dynamics of Galaxies" group in the Laboratoire d'Astrophysique de Marseille (LAM) will have two openings for theoretical work on galaxies. One is at the postdoc level and the other for a PhD thesis,both to work with E. Athanassoula (lia AT oamp.fr) and A. Bosma (bosma AT oamp.fr). They are both in the framework of the DAGAL EU ITN network for research in nearby galaxies. For more information on these jobs, you can look at the general DAGAL website where the DAGAL network is presented, and the expected areas of research outlined.

 
4. CONFIRM YOUR MEMBERSHIP ADDRESS

All members of the Society are strongly encouraged to visit the online membership directory Hel.A.S. (available in English as well as in Greek) in order to verify that their personal information, including postal address, e-mail an phone numbers, is correct. If you notice a mistake on your record or that of a colleague please inform the Secretary of Hel.A.S. (Prof. I. Papadakis). The Society relies on this information for all mailings to the members, and in particular for posting information regarding the upcoming elections for the new Council of the Society next June.
