| 1. SHORT NEWS. |

Most members of the Society who attended the 11th Conference of Hel.A.S. had the possibility to pay their past membership dues on site. Members who did not attend the Conference and/or have not yet paid their membership for the years 2013 and/or 2012 are kindly requested to do so before the end of October 2013, or contact the Treasurer Prof. Vlahakis (phone: +30 210 7276903, e-mail: treasurer@helas.gr).

| 2. THE 11th CONFERENCE OF HEL.A.S. |
|
A total of 154 participants from Greek Institutes, as well as from abroad, attended the 11th Conference of Hel.A.S., which took place in the Academy of Athens last month. The Governing Council of Hel.A.S. would like to thank the Local Organizing Committee, as well as all participants, who made this conference a success. We plan to upload all the oral presentations on the conference web site, on the 4th of November, 2013. Regarding the posters that were presented during the Conference, please download the LaTeX Macros from our website (http://www.helas.gr/conf/2013/proceedings.php), prepare a 2-page (max) PDF file, and send it to A. Anastasiadis (anastasi@noa.gr) by October the 31st, 2013. We will then upload these on the conference's web pages as well. Please note that we will not be able to accept and upload any files received after this deadline. We also plan to link the abstracts of both the oral and poster presentations to the ADS database. We will keep you informed in future Newsletters. A number of pictures from the conference dinner are available as a Picasa album at:

If you have your own pictures from the conference and you wish to share them with all participants send them to Prof. V. Charmandaris. We all look forward to the 12th Conference in 2015!

| 3. IMPRS SCHOOLS ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR PHD STUDIES. |
|
The International Max Planck Research School (IMPRS) for Astronomy and Astrophysics at the Universities of Bonn and Cologne have announced a call for applications to its 2014 PhD Program. The deadline for applications is on November 15, 2013. More information can be found at http://www.mpifr-bonn.mpg.de/imprs/application_and_admission. The International Max-Planck Research School on Astrophysics in Garching/Munich (Bavaria, Germany) is also soliciting applications for its 2014 PhD program.
