1. Short News

We remind the participants of the 12th Conference of Hel.A.S. that the deadline for sending us extended abstracts just expired. In case you intended to send us your abstract but haven't managed so far, we would please ask you to do so until Monday 7/9/2015, as we plan to upload the material and update the conference's web-site by that time.

2. EWASS 2016 - Call for Symposia and Special Sessions

The European Astronomical Society (EAS) wishes to remind you that the deadline for expressions of interest to organise Symposia and Special Sessions at the European Week of Astronomy and Space Science (EWASS 2016) planed to be held in Athens, Greece on 4-8 July 2016, is September 11, 2015. We encourage our members to consider submitting a proposal. For more information, please visit:

3. Postdoctoral Position at NOA

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position at the Institute for Astronomy, Astrophysics, Space Applications and Remote Sensing (IAASARS) of the National Observatory of Athens (NOA) in the field of X-ray Astronomy (High Energy Astrophysics). The position is in the framework of the EU H2020 AHEAD (Activities in the High Energy Astrophysics Domain) program. The overall objective of AHEAD is to integrate national efforts in high-energy Astrophysics and to promote this research domain at the European level. AHEAD has a strong public outreach component. The successful applicant is expected to co-ordinate the public outreach activities of AHEAD including the development and maintenance of the project’s public outreach web-page and the organization of outreach events focused on High energy astrophysics throughout Europe. The successful applicant is also expected to devote a fraction of his time to research.

The successful applicant is expected to closely collaborate with other High Energy Astrophysics groups participating in AHEAD and in particular INAF (IAPS and IASF in Rome and Bologna in Italy) and the University of Leicester in the UK. The qualifications sought are a PhD in X-ray Astronomy or High Energy Astrophysics in general and preferably some experience in science communication skills.

The main research activities of the X-ray group of the National Observatory of Athens focus on Active Galactic Nuclei detected by the XMM/Newton and Chandra extragalactic surveys, their cosmological evolution and obscuration properties, as well as the relation between the formation and evolution of galaxies and the growth of supermassive black holes at their centers. More information can be found at:

http://xraygroup.astro.noa.gr

The position is for one year and can be extended for two more years. Interested candidates should send a curriculum vitae and a list of publications to Dr. I. Georgantopoulos (ig@noa.gr) before *or shortly after* the 31st of August 2015. The candidates should also arrange for two reference letters to be sent by e-mail.

4. IMPRS Call for PhDs in Astrophysics

The International Max Planck Research School on Astrophysics (IMPRS) in Garching/Munich (Bavaria, Germany) is soliciting applications for its PhD program in Astrophysics, offering about 25 PhD positions. The deadline for applications is November 15, 2015. More information can be found at the graduate schools' web-site:
