            | 5.  The 2016 NEON Observing School
 |
            | The 2016 NEON Observing school will take place in Greece from June 19th to July 2nd, 2016. The school will focus on practical observations at the telescope, followed by data reduction and presentation of the scientific results. The preliminary program and the registration form are available here. The deadline for registration is March 31st, 2016 |

            | 6.  The ISM-SPP Olympian School of Astrophysics 2016 |
            | This School is organized by the Olympian Centre for Astrophysics (OCfA) and will focus on the physics and chemistry of the galactic and extragalactic interstellar medium including star formation, and on astrochemistry from photoionized to photodissociation and molecular regions. The scope of the school is to gather young researchers, particularly PhD students, and early career scientists to discuss about theoretical, numerical, and observational aspects of the general field of the interstellar medium. The covered topics include: physics and dynamics of the Interstellar Medium (galactic, extragalactic), astrochemistry (photoionization, photodissociation, molecular regions), hydrodynamics (instabilities, turbulence, magnetic fields), star formation (from low-mass to high-mass stars, triggered and non-triggered), hydrodynamical simulations and comparison with observations.
The School is kindly sponsored by ISM-SPP (DFG Priority Program 1573) (http://www.ism-spp.de) and will take place in the conference room of the "Mediterranean Village Hotel & Spa" which is located on the beach in Paralia Katerini's. For more information, please visit the school's web-page: http://school2016.olympiancfa.org/

            | 8.  Special Session and Symposium in EWASS 2016 |
            | We would like to draw your attention to one Special Session and one Symposium, organized by members of our Society, in the framework of this year's EWASS:SS2: Solar-Terrestrial Coupling and Space Weather: State-of-the-Art and Future Prospects
This Special Session (organized by: V. Archontis, I.A. Daglis, S. Patsourakos and A. Vourlidas) combines observations, data analysis, theory, and numerical simulations, to address the following questions/topics: (a) how does the coupling between solar magnetic fields and plasma flows power solar eruptions (b) how does the solar wind interact with the ejecta and how do the terrestrial and planetary magnetospheres react to the perturbed solar wind, and (c)  multi-scale observations of the Magnetosphere-Ionosphere-Thermosphere System.  Abstract submission deadline is 15 March, 2016. More info about SS2 can be found here.  Symposium S17: Magnetic Helicity in Sun and Stars: From Dynamo Action to Eruptive Phenomena

This Symposium (organized by: M. Georgoulis, A. Nindos, and D. Nandi) will recap studies that have shaped and continue to shape the intricate topic of magnetic helicity, affording the well-acquainted or simply interested audience a succinct, top-level view of our understanding of the topic. Future prospects enabled by contemporary understanding will also be discussed. The Symposium will promote a balance between observational effects of helical manifestations and theory, emphasizing studies that embolden this connection. To remain attractive to both solar / space physicists and astrophysicists, it will also investigate the solar-stellar connection of helical manifestations in the universe. Abstract submission deadline is 15 March, 2016. More info about S17 can be found here.   |
