| 1. Brief News |
|
With some delay, we would like to inform our members that Prof. Kyriakos Hizanidis and Prof. Romylos Korakitis recently reached the compulsory retirement age at National Technical University of Athens. On behalf of all Society members the governing council would like to thank them for their contributions to the Society and to the advancement of science in Greece. We also wish them a fruitful continuation of their work and other endeavours for many years to come.
We would like to congratulate Dr. Ioannis Liodakis, who was awarded a Gruber foundation fellowship by the International Astronomical Union as an outstanding early-career astrophysicist. The Society extends its best wishes for further success in his professional pursuits.
We would like to congratulate Prof. Nectaria Gizani, who has recently obtained tenure as an Assistant Professor at the Hellenic Open University. The Society extends its best wishes for further success in her professional pursuits.
We would like to congratulate Dr. Kostas Karampelas, who recently moved as a Research Fellow to the Department of Mathematics, Physics and Electrical Engineering of the University of Northumbia. The Society extends its best wishes for further success in his professional pursuits.

| 2. EAS Membership |
|
We would like to inform all members of our Society who over the summer expressed their interests to join the European Astronomical Society (EAS) that they have been formally accepted as members of the EAS. They now appear on the online directory, visible only to EAS members. The total number of EAS members sponsored by HelAS is 200. Moreover, all new EAS members much have already received an e-mail from EAS on how to obtain their personal password. They are strongly encouraged to visit the EAS directory in order to verify that their contact information is correct. Inquiries and corrections should be sent to eas-web@unige.ch.

| 3. Monthly Colloquium of HelAS |
|
Nearly 80 members of the Society had the opportunity to virtually attend the first Monthly Colloquium of HelAS by Dr. J. Spyromilio, entitled "The Extremely Large Telescope". The video of colloquium is now available in the YouTube channel of the Society, where we intend to keep a video archive of all similar activities of the Society.
We are happy to announce that the November colloquium speaker is Dr. Angelos Vourlidas. Details of his colloquium follow:

Abstract: The formation and evolution of stellar winds are fundamentally important in understanding planetary habitability in our solar system and beyond. The Sun is our best chance to understand these processes as most stars are too far away to study in detail. Yet, despite more than 50 years of space exploration, the mechanisms of the generation and early evolution of the solar wind still elude us. For decades, progress on solving this problem has been hampered by the 'disconnected' nature of the observations; remote sensing of the near-Sun corona, in-situ sampling at Earth. The evolution of the solar wind and its more energetic transients in the corona was accessible only through modelling.
This is no longer the case, thanks to the Parker Solar Probe (PSP), launched in August 2018 and currently past its 6th perihelion. PSPS is an unprecedented space mission. It is designed to attack the solar wind problem head-on by direct sampling of the corona from the ‘inside’ with a suite of remote sensing and in-situ instruments. PSP is the first spacecraft to enter the atmosphere of a star, reaching gradually to within 6 million km from the solar surface.
In this talk, I describe the technical breakthroughs that made PSP possible, the observations over the first six perihelia and the first exciting science results that span the gamut from coronal science to comets to dusty plasmas. A new era in solar and space physics has began.

| 4. The Society in the Social Media |
|
We would like to bring to the attention of all members that with some delay the Society now has a formal presence in the social media in order to communicate with the general public as well as its members. The relevant decision of the GC is available here, while our social media accounts are:
We would like to invite all members to follow, as well as share, the above mentioned links with their colleagues, students and friends. Also note that in the YouTube channel of the Society we store all our monthly colloquia, so that they remain accessible for future reference for those who have missed them. The colloquium of Dr. Jason Spyromilio is already available online.

| 5. IAU PhD prize and new member applications |
|
Each Division of the International Astronomical Union (IAU) has, once a year, the opportunity to award its own prize to the best candidate of the previous year (i.e. a PhD Thesis which has been defended between the 16 December in the previous year, and 15 December this year). The deadline for applications for the 2020 IAU PhD Prize will be the 15th December. The application form is available here.

IAU individual or junior membership:
Candidates must have completed their PhD studies in any field of astronomy between 2015 and 2020.
Deadline for application this year is December 15, 2020.
