1. Short News |
We would like to congratulate Dr. Marios Karouzos who has become Head of Publishing Strategy - Reviews, News & Opinion, Nature Portfolio at Springer Nature Group. The Society extends its best wishes for further success in his professional pursuits.
We would like to congratulate Prof. Vicky Kalogera (Northwestern University, USA) who has been elected as an external member of the Board of Directors of the University of Crete, and she will be contributing with her extensive experience in the strategic decisions of the University.
All members are encouraged to review the minutes of the 12th meeting of the Governing Council of HelAS, which took place on March 27, 2024.

2. Elections of Hel.A.S. |
The Governing Council of the Hel.A.S. informs all members that the next elections for the Council of the Society for 2024-2026 term will take place on Friday June 28 2024, along with the 43th General Assembly (GA). The deadline for nominations ended on February 29, 2023 and on March 27, 2024 the Governing Council approved all nominations received. These were:
- Candidate for President of the GC: Prof. D. Hatzidimitriou (Univ. of Athens)
- Candidates for Members of the GC: Dr. J. Antoniadis (IA/FORTH), Prof. V. Archontis (Univ. of Ioannina), Dr. G. Balasis (IAASARS/NOA), Dr. E. Koulouridis (IAASARS/NOA), Dr. A. Papaioanou (IAASARS/NOA), Prof. M. Petropoulou (Univ. of Athens)
- Candidates for Auditors: Dr. P. Boumis (IAASARS/NOA), Dr. T. Diaz Santos (IA/FORTH), Dr. G. Vasilopoulos (Univ. of Athens)

3. Summer School of Hel.A.S. |
The 5th summer school of the Society, entitled "Magnetohydrodynamics in Astrophysics", will take place in Ioannina during 16-20 September 2024. More information about the summer school, which is also sponsored by the Univ. of Ioannina, will become available here.

4. Travel Grants
|
|
We would like to inform the Junior members of our Society that we are now accepting applications for financial support for meetings occurring during the calendar year's second half (July - December 2024). Priority will be given to Junior members who have no access to other sources of funding for their participation in conferences or workshops. The deadline for submitting the application is June 15, 2024. The application form is available here. |

5. Job Opportunities in Greece |
1) The Institute of Astrophysics at the Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas (IA-FORTH) invites applications for a 3-year PhD position broadly on blazars and Tidal Disruption events to work with Dr. Ioannis Liodakis’s group, funded by the ERC Starting Grant BOOTES (Black hOle Optical polarization TimE-domain Survey). BOOTES is focusing on multiwavelength polarization observations of blazars and TDEs trying to understand early accretion disk and jet formation as well particle acceleration and high-energy processes in jets from supermassive black holes. 2) The Institute for Astronomy, Astrophysics, Space Applications and Remote Sensing (IAASARS) of the National Observatory of Athens (NOA) invites applications for a postdoctoral position on the topic of "Scientific analysis of very high energy particles", funded by the Horizon Europe program SPEARHEAD, to work with Dr. A. Papaioannou. More information is available here.

6. ESA Archival Archival Research Visitor Programme |
The ESA Archival Research Visitor Programme is open to scientists, at all career levels, affiliated with institutes in ESA Member States and Collaborating States. Early-career scientists (within 10 years of the PhD) and PhD students are particularly encouraged to apply. We encourage applications from women and minorities.
Applications received before 1 May 2024 will be considered for visits in autumn and winter 2024/2025.
