1. SHORT NEWS

The deadline for registration to the meeting "Astronomy 2000+: Greek
prospects for the 21st century" is the 31st of October. If you plan to
attend please check the web page dedicated to this meeting (Topic 3). Also
please note that the Council of He.L.A.S. has decided to encourage young
astronomers (especially graduate students) to attend this meeting by
offering a travel grant, up to 30.000 per person, towards travel or living
expenses (receipts necessary). Applications should be addressed, before
October 15th, to the Secratary of He.L.A.S., Dr. H. Varvoglis, either by
Mail or by E-Mail at the address:

2. ARE YOU A MEMBER OF EAS?
-------------------------------
The treasurer of Hel.A.S. is trying to set up the procedure, so that members
of Hel.A.S. who are also members of the European Astronomical Society (EAS)
can pay their EAS membership fees via Hel.A.S., obtaining a 20% discount
(SFr 40.-instead of SFr 50.-). To achieve this, he needs to know the
names of all people, who are member to both societies.
Therefore, all members of Hel.A.S. who are already members of EAS are kindly
requested to notify Dr. P. Niarchos
