  4. CALL FOR ARTICLES ON NEXT IPPARCHOS ISSUE ON GREEK OBSERVATORIES
  -------------------------------------------------------------------

The GC of HelAS has decided to prepare a special issue of Ipparchos
on the status of all Greek Observatories, such as, Aristarchos, Skinakas,
Kryonerion, Stephanion, Penteli, Gerostathopoulio, Eudoxos, Ioannina.
The issue is planned to circulate before the upcoming 7th Hellenic
Astronomy Conference in Cephallonia next summer and is timely in view
of the recent installation of the ARISTARCHOS telescope on Mt Helmos
and the efforts of Greece to join the European Southern Observatory (ESO).
If you are offering to write such a review article on the status of one
of the Greek Observatories, pls contact the editor of Ipparchos (Dr. K.
Kokkotas), or any other member of the HelAS/GC.

  5. REMINDER: YEAR BOOK OF GREEK ASTRONOMERS 2005
  ------------------------------------------------

As announced in the en80 (beginning of November 2004), HelAS is
attempting a new edition of the Year Book (Epetirida) of Greek
Ph.D's in Astronomy and related fields, living in Greece or abroad.
The first edition was published by the National Committee for Astronomy
back in 1992 and it has proven very useful. In this new edition we shall
try to include as many scientists as possible (of course not only the
members of HelAS) and their whereabouts. You can find the questionnaire in

    http://www.astro.auth.gr/elaset/forms/STENCIL_2005.doc

and you have to complete as many boxes as you want, but we shall
definitely want to have the present occupation and present job
address and e-mail. A recent photograph will be desirable. Please,
return the questionnaire by e-mail to plaskar@phys.uoa.gr with the
subject Epetirida or Year Book, (to make sure that it is not a
spam). ** PLEASE DO NOT FORGET TO SPEND A FEW MINUTES TO FILL THE
  FORMS **

  6. POSTDOCTORAL POSITION IN X-RAY ASTRONOMY AT THE NOA
  -------------------------------------------------------

The X-ray Astronomy and Cosmology Group at the Institute of
Astronomy & Astrophysics at the National Observatory of Athens,
invites applications for a postdoctoral Chandra and XMM-Newton
projects position, which could begin as early as January 2004.
The interests of the group are focused on Extragalactic X-ray
Astronomy, i.e. the X-ray background, AGN, clusters of galaxies,
star-forming galaxies and Large Scale Structure in the X-ray

significant fraction of his/her time on the analysis of Chandra
observations of star-forming galaxies in collaboration with the
  Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics.
Applicants are required to have a PhD, while significant
experience working with X-ray data would be an advantage.
Candidates should be highly motivated to pursue independent
scientific research, collaborating within a small group of
scientists. The position is available for a period of up to 2 years.
Applications including CV, publications list, statement of research
interests, and two academic reference letters should be sent to
  I. Georgantopoulos or M. Plionis at :
