Βιογραφικό: |
Associate Professor of History and Philosophy of
Astronomy and Physical Science (retired). He was born
in Athens, Greece on the 12th of March, 1949. He got his B.Sc. in Mathematics from the Aristotle University of
Thessaloniki, Greece (1972) and his Ph.D. in Astrophysics from the Physics Department of the University of Athens, Greece (1983). He has worked as Laboratory Assistant, Lecturer and Assistant Professor at the Physics Department of the University of Athens. His scientific interests include History and Philosophy of Astronomy and Physical Sciences, Observational Astronomy and Astrophysics, Satellite spectrophotometry of Be and variable stars. He has
published 43 scientific papers in refereed journals (14 in Astrophysics and 29 in History and Philosophy of Astronomy), 18 papers in the British Sundial Society Bulletin (BSB) and North American Sundial Society Bulletin (NASS) and 147 papers in conference proceedings in Greece and abroad (65 in Astrophysics and 82 in History and Philosophy of Astronomy). In addition, he has exhibited a rich writing work with more than fourteen books in Physics and Astronomy, titled: On Stars and their myths–An Introduction in Uranography (1991), Measuring the Timeless-time– Time in Astronomy (1994), Astrology, Science or Religion? (1994), The Odyssey of Calendars vol. I. Looking for the roots of knowledge (1995), The Odyssey of Calendars vol. II. Astronomy and Tradition (1995), Straman-The tale of the Heavens (1997), The Universe I loved–An Introduction in Astrophysics, vol. I & II. (1998), In the trace of ICHTHYS–Astronomy, History, Philosophy (2000), Cosmology of the Mind–An Introduction in Cosmology (2003), The cycle of the Time–Astronomy and Mysterious religions (2004), The future of our Past-Science and New Civilization (2005), The dethronement of the Earth–The dispute between geocentric and heliocentric systems (2007), The Philosophy of Physics–From Cartesius to the Theory of Everything (2008). The book Cosmology of the Mind–An introduction in Cosmology (2003) was awarded with the “Aronis Prize” of the University of Athens (23 December, 2004). Also, he has written 6 Textbooks. For the last four years, in association with the Assistant Professor E. Danezis, he has been creator, presenter and scientific supervisor of the scientific television series “The Universe I Loved”, which already counts more than 100 episodes. He has been awarded the "Hellenic- American University prize" in the 1st International Science Film Festival, for this television series. He has been honored by the Hellenic Union of Physicists for all of his scientific and educational activities. He is a member of the International Astronomical Union (IAU), the European Astronomical Union (E.A.S.), the Hellenic Astronomical Society (Hel.A.S, founding member), the Hellenic Union of Physicists, the Hellenic Union of Mathematics, the Foundation of "Preserving Language Heritage" and the Foundation of “Historical Studies of Ancient Greek Mathematics. |
