Kostas Tassis obtained his BSc in Physics at the University of Thessaloniki in 1999 and his PhD in Theoretical Astrophysics at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign (USA) in 2005. He was a Postdoctoral Fellow at The University of Chicago (2005 - 2008) and at Jet Propulsion Laboratory (a NASA lab run by Caltech) (2008-2011). He was elected as an Assistant Professort at the University of Crete in 2011, and he joined the Department of Physics in the fall of 2012. Between 2011 and 2012 he was a Visiting Scientist at the Max-Planck Institute for Radioastronomy in Bonn, Germany. He was promoted to an Associate Professor in 2018 and to a Professor in 2023. |

He is a member of the IAU, the International Scientific Radio Union; Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Society; Astronomical Society of New York; Historical Astronomy Division, A.A.S.; Society for Scientific Exploration; Hel.A.S., Armenian Astronomical Society, American Association for the Advancement of Science. He has published more than 230 scientific papers in refereed journals in conference proceedings and special volumes / books. He has also published six books on the Interstellar Ionized Hydrogen, on the Planetary Nebulae, on Flare Stars, on Cosmology and Astrophysics, on Active Galactic Nuclei And Related Phenomena and on Carl Sagans Universe.

Research Scientist, Australia Telescope, National Facility. He was born in Kerastari, Tripolis, Greece on the 1st of May, 1952 and he migrated to Australia in 1970. He received his B.Sc. (Honors in Physics) from the University of Sydney, Australia (1976), the B.E. (Honors in Electrical Engineering - 1978) and the Ph.D. (1987) from the same University. He worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Jodrell Bank, U.K (1987- 90), and has been a staff member at the Australia Telescope National Facility since 1990. He is a member of the Astronomical Society of Australia, the Hellenic Astronomical Society (Hel.A.S.), the International Astronomical Union (IAU), the Union of Radio Science International (URSI) and COSPAR. He is involved in international radio spectrum management and he is chairman of Working Party 7D (WP7D) at the International Radiocommunications Union (ITU), chairman of the IAU Working group on RFI Mitigation, vice-chair of the scientific committee on frequency allocations for radio astronomy and space science (IUCAF) and chair of the Radio Astronomy Committee for Frequency Allocation in the Asia Pacific (RAFCAP). His main research interests are in high resolution radio astronomy using Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) techniques to study objects such as Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) to X-ray Binaries. He is also involved in technical developments for real-time VLBI (e-VLBI) using very fast networks world-wide. |

Director of Research (Retired) and Research Associate of in the Research Center for Astronomy and Applied Mathematics (RCAAM), Academy of Athens, Greece (since 1990). He was born in Sparta, Greece on the 4th of November, 1944. He obtained the B.Sc. in Physics from the University of Athens, Greece (1969), the M.Sc. in Meteorology (1972) and the Ph.D. in Solar Physics (1974) from the same University. He has been a Cadet Researcher at the National Research Foundation (1971-1972), Assistant Researcher (1972-1976) and Instructor of Research at the RCAAM of the Academy of Athens (1976-1990). In 1985 he was Docent of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He has spent one year as a visiting researcher in the Max Planck Institute in Munich/Germany, one year in the Space Research Laboratory Utrecht/ The Netherlands and several other laboratories for shorter periods. He was a tutor for five years in the Military School of Air Forces in both flying and engineering department, teaching space physics and space technology. His scientific interests include solar physics, near interplanetary physics and solar-terrestrial relations. He has published about 55 scientific papers in refereed journals and about 45 papers in conference proceedings and special volumes / books. He has also published a textbook on Space Physics and Technology for the cadets of the Air Force Academy of Greece. He is a member of the International Astronomical Union (IAU), American Geophysical Union (AGU), Hellenic Astronomical Society (Hel.A.S.), Hellenic Astronautical Union (HAU), Hellenic Physical Union, Scientific Program Committee (SPC) of the European Space Agency (ESA) and the High Level Working Group (HLWG) of the Group on Earth Observation (GEO) (since 2005). |
